The main caps on the SBF register to the block. After running the motor, and having a main bearing failure, the main caps do not press into the block. They go back on the block without having to tap them or pull them into place.

Not sure if I explained that right, but what would your suggeston be. Thank you Dart for your help.

Had this same thing on the front main on my 010 block. Seems like it fits really loose in the register. It didn't wreck the bearing, but you can see at the parting line where it was close.................................CARL, ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!!!!

Sounds like the main cap got hot and curled in a little and in most cases the cap can be cut flat and the register can be tightened up by swedging the register and a line hone should take crae of it. Or you can get another cap and cut it in.

I have heard of shops pressing them straight and align honing the caps. Thats what I will have done. Thanks for the input.

That is a bandaid operation. Once the heat has pushed and retracted the cap and pushed the register out, it is not wise to do what you think is right. If this is a stocker or low hp engine you can get away with it. I would Throw the caps away that do not fit and get new ones is the best bottom basement fix. Best fix is to have all new caps installed with the center 3 being splayed. This will pretty much fix it right. It cost $750.00 for this operation but will give you at the least 30% more bottom end strength and you can throw away the useless main girdle bandaid! Carl most likely could install the caps for your if he is close enough.
