View Full Version : Tech Day

I've been thinking about organizing periodic "Tech Days" on the forums here. These days would be marked on the forum calendars. Forum members, as well as our dealers and retailers would be notified of the day and time the event was to take place.
The idea would be to have a day where people could ask lots of questions and exchange knowledge while getting fairly quick responses thanks to the number of people around.
I wouldn't mind hearing people's thoughts on the idea.
If it seems like people would participate I'll set one up and get a couple of our techs to haunt the forums on that day also.
Feel free to chime in if you think you would or would not participate.

I will be doing some testing on the dyno over the next couple of weeks with some different sized runners. I am sure that I am going to run into some questions.

that would be great, but during and dedicated period would be tight. As long as there is room to get back.

That sounds great. I've been contemplating doing my cam and head swap myself, so having some tech help would be awesome.

This is a before and after picture of some pistons. Whats your opinions? Sorry the pics are so bad.

I round the sharp edges on the dome of the pistons I build with. I do this for the same reason I blend the bowls in the heads I build with if they aren't ported. Same reason I knock the sharp edges out of the chambers of the heads I build with. Turbulence...
It helps limit turbulence of the flame front as it travels across the dome of the piston. It's my belief that this can help free up a few more hp. Turbulence any where between, ( and including ), the intake charge and the exhaust can trim hp out of your combination. Even on flat top pistons I'll contour the 2 sharp edges for the valve reliefs. Leading into and out of the reliefs.
This piston is going into an engine that will be running a set of the Dart 49cc chamber 215cc runner platinum series cast iron heads. The customer was a lil' comcerned about the 16.5:1 compression I was going to make him. So I opted not to deck the heads...yet, and contoured the domes here more than I usually would. Later on he is taking this engine from the street stock class he is running to the modified class. Then he will be able to run alky. At that time I'll deck the heads and get the comp back up.
Thanks, Don

Who is Dart Vader ? Jack? I think this would be a great idea. E-mail me at bandbengines@yahoo.com and let me know if you do indeed decide to do so, I will try to join in and help out
I know this is an old post but i think it would be great and that it should be advertised every Friday {example} and advertise tech help in Super Chevy and Chevy High on the Dart Board - Great idea

I'm not Jack, but I do find it interesting that this thread was ressurected. Maybe I'll look back into the idea...

It would also be good to have a Dart tech on Everyday for one hour maybe or two, and in all the Dart ads put down "All tech questions can be answered on www.dartheads.com in the forum section" Have a special section that is "Tech Help" where the Tech's from Dart and all engine Builders that help can go and help them out - You would have engine builders that use the parts, Tech guys at Dart and maybe Tony would give his thoughts every now and then too, maybe Maskin too

The techs are pretty busy guys, but they do pop on here from time to time to check things out, and we always encourage our engine builders to jump on and contribute.
Virtually any information I provide here on the boards is run past one or two of our techs first, since they are considerably more knowledgeable than I am!
