Rather than dirty up someones thread, I am posting this here.

There are a varying amount of personalities and levels of expertise on this board. When a question is asked, there will be varying answers. Just because answers vary, doesn't mean there are digs going on. I don't mean to be pointing out the obvious, but apparently I have to.

I have never claimed to be a professional, but if I think someone is wrong, I will speak up. It is the way that I am.

We all do it some, just others do it more

I would have been a cry baby using that 400 as a grill :D

BTW, someone stole your idea. There is not a grill that looks like an engine ! They probally read about it on the Dart Board :D

You are fine, sometimes stuff gets lost in type. Almost 99% of what I say is sarcastic, I am almost never serious. Most of the guys around here know this, but sometimes the new guys, take it the wrong way.

Quit your crying.........thats my new favorite saying, it will be in my sig.

I cried myself to sleep last night.........I broke another transmission. I am done with TH-400's. This one was a used pos, that I borrowed to finish the year. Now I have to have that one redone for the guy that I borrowed it from.........ouch.

Jake, why do they keep breaking?

My buddies car made 1280hp & 785tq and it had no issue, It was really a street car (PRO STREET CAR) , didnt get driven much then became a legal tagged race car

With the TH400 with special ATI aluminum drum, It did hold up fine then when he got the car to hook it would go on the bumper so had to pull the TH400 and install a TH210 gear set

What keeps failing in your TH400?

My first one it pulled the lugs out of the case. This last one was a beg/borrowed/stolen trans out of my dads car that has been sitting for 3 years, and the trans was assembled when I was 18. I never expected it to last. It was a bunch of junk with a TCI valve body on it. That 400 that I wrecked earlier with the lugs coming out, had over 30,000 miles on it, and hundreds of passes off the brake. It didn't owe me anything. Here in WI we drive the crap out of our cars in the summer Butch, no trailers allowed.

Trailer queen!!!!!!!

I have been looking at and have made up my mind, I will be going with a coan xlt350 this winter. Should be a bunch quicker, and just as strong, if not stronger.

PS this is my thread, I can hyjack it if I want to :D

If you keep breaking the case around the bolts, you need to get a new drive shaft, harmonics will kill cases. Or Solid tranny mounts are a no no for the street, no flex and to solid! If you broke the internals of a TH400 it was most likely junk, I run a TH400 in my Pro Mod and We hit it with 350hp right off the line and neve broke anything yet.

Bill, it pulled the lugs out of the case. Pretty common failure for the 400. Why don't you run a glide in the camaro, probably be quicker, as would the 350. I have already made up my mind to go with the coan.

I run a powerglide in the Camaro and for now a TH400 in the Match Race Malibu Pro Mod looking thing. You can go to U-Tube and type in English Town Malec and watch the first round ass kicking my driver got. he done his best but a 3.93 was a little tuff. We were just getting him some seat time. We got a 632 going in right now and the 565 is coming out. It will run 7.0's with the new engine if we can keep the TH400 in it. Funny, I have never broken a good TH400. You don't have enough power to pull the lugs out of the case! Don't even say you do. A TH350 will run quicker for sure and most likely with the power you are running will be a faster better unit. You don't have to run a Coan for that, we build them all the time for up to 1000 hp for $1500.00. You can't break it and I back up breakage if I ever had one.

Here is a couple pieces of said "unbroken lugs" I got these out of the pan. I will have to dig the case out to get a pic of the case. I never said it happened because of a ton of power. I am told it is a fairly common failure for the 400.

We are putting a 632 in our match race car, hope my TH400 stays in there. If it breaks, its gone, I will put one of our 6500 AWESOME GLIDES in it and I know I will not break that. Good luck

Local engine guy has been riding my butt for 2 years now to get rid of the TH400 anyway because it is a power robbing pos, and all they do is break. Coan I think does make a case saver for this exact problem, but I am going to go with there aluminum internal XLT. Art Reid, was talking it should be worth .3-.4 at the track over my 400.

wow, that is overkill for sure. But if you can swing it, bring it. Good luck with your new venture. Hope you get that piston to valve right? just quite crying lol
