Administrator's Note: I've stickied this and the engines thread so that everyone can check out some awesome motors, rides and man-caves and so that others can continue to post their stuff in the future.

Here's my Junk.

Although I cut my teeth on domestic hot rods I have always been a fan of aircooled VWs. This year I found a really good deal on a 1964 sunroof sedan 14k original miles on the chassis and body. It was an older build that ran decent but needed some updates and a little fixing of some hacked stuff.... It's really a shame what they did to it but I will fix it.

This was about a month after I picked it up. I pulled the motor, replaced some seals, new clutch, new header and exhaust, fixed the hacked up cooling system, stripped all the chrome polished crap, went through the brakes, and made it ready to drive for the summer. Basicly it was built as a "Cal look" car.

Nevermind the odd offset on the rear wheels, those will change to something more traditional.

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/554278.jpg

Here's the business end.

1600 based stroker with a 78 mm stroke 92 mm bore... Just over 2 liters.
Dual weber 44's
Decent heads
Bus trans with a bunch of gear

Pulls wheelies on street tires and makes great torque.

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/554277.jpg

Towards the end of the season I started working on the garage to get it ready for restoration of the car. I moved in with my girl a couple years ago and the garage was in horrible shape with bare walls, no lights, stained concrete... blah blah blah...

Before.

After a few weeks of work.

Epoxy coated the floor.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/kev066/beetle/ad-1.jpg

Lowes had counter tops on sale so I picked one up to build my bench.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/kev066/beetle/ad-3.jpg

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/kev066/beetle/ad-5.jpg

As of right now the car sits like this.

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/613514.jpg

Plans include a fresh motor since I found somethings I didn't like.

Fresh paint. (OEM Panama Biege)
New factory interior
Disc brake conversions
A few modern suspension upgrades

And if budget allows it may get a little fuel injection and some boost... Depends on how much I have to put into the motor.

I run E85 know I really like it so far. Plus you can boil the gas out of it and drink it! Just kidding, I don't think I would try that.....

May not look like much but, I'm finally working on the chassis. I actually may get this thing done at some point!!
Decided to start with a clean slate and strip the car down, plus put it on a diet. Pulled all the batteries and cables out. Decided to go without onboard batteries. Talked to the track I race at and they still consider an onboard starter and external batteries(on the quad) to be "self starting" so that saved me 100 pounds already.

They look like Wilwood brakes to me (look at the second picture, bottom left:)

Didn't you just get that together Jake? Only to tear it all down again. This hobby is a P.I.T.A.!! :D

Wilwood Forged Dynalite Pro..........is the kit. I had OEM replacement stuff from SSBC. It wasn't really up to the task!!! Not to mention it was all very heavy. Everything will be aluminum now including the master cylinder.

My wife doesn't leave the lights on but she's is a bit of a neat freak, can't even finish my dinner before the dishes are in the dishwasher, can't turn my head and boom. :D

I had a really poor clutch throw out system last time I ran the car and swore I would redesign it, It was basically a pedal attached directly to the crossshaft. Very poor design and really hard to operate(had to use my heel to release the clutch)
Here is whats left of the old system.

http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u358/ComaxRacing/oldlinkage.jpg

This new system I installed is not tested yet but I hope it will make the pedal effort virtually nill, its a little more complicated but I mounted everything on roller bearings so I hopefully will be nice and smooth.

The way the chassis and bellhousing are situated the pedal arm and cross shaft arm are almost on top of each other. Thats why I cheated and just attached the two together last time. The double pivot system solves this issue.(or seems to) Thanks to Tim Mcamis' engineers for that little concept made my life real easy

Its been a while since I showed any progress but I got a little done. Started the new wheelie bars. They are a lot longer than my old ones. Old ones were 48" these new ones are 84", should be a lot better. The old ones were pretty dangerous (too short)
