What all is required when purchasing a new block, besides honing to fit the pistons and installing cam bearings?
Any other machine work? I am looking at the big M 9.8 deck 4.5 bore. And the actual bore the way it is sent is 4.490? for part number 31263444

You have to check everything, you just can't assume every thing went well that day. ! little mess up and your engine could suffer. We check the deck, align bore, Light bore and hone with plates, install cam bearings and freeze plugs, then hot wash for 30 minutes. If the deck is out side to side more than .002 anywhere, we sqaure deck. If the align bore is not dead on, we align hone. This goes for any block, not just brand new Dart or Merlin or Donovon, or anyones. Don't gamble. You will not have to radial notch the block as it comes ready for up to 4.375" with h-beam rods. Maybe 4.25"? Either way, you have some checking and maybe just touching up. It is not anything like some BIG NAME engine builders claim such as, 10 hours of machine work. Thats bull____!
