I'm about to drop some iron eagle s/s heads (165cc intake, 67cc chabers) onto an otherwise stock 84 SBC 350. The spec sheet says to use autolite AR13 plugs. Are these in the right heat range for such a mild engine? Is there a "cheaper" alternative I could use?

NGK makes the R5674-6 which should be a cheap alternative, or Champion makes the RV9YC. The NGK's can be had for around a buck fifty.

I like the AR series recessed and side gapped from Autolite. Otherwise the std. recessed Autolite. Inexpensive and buy in bulk and keep in the trailers for back ups. I also tend to index everything whether it needs it or not.

You can run the seated AR135 or NGK version 9 series with no problems.

Thanks for the input, guys. This will not be a race motor, so indexing will not be worth the hassle. This is an old, stock, worn down motor, that's in a beat up 3/4 ton truck, that's going to HAVE to be my DD for a while. I guess the main question was overlooked....
Are the suggested AR13 plugs in the proper heat range for this type of application?

You do not need to index anything and be careful not to break the electrode by forcing the adjustment on that. Use the proper way of opening the air gap and stay away from pushing on the center. AR135
