whats up guys im new to the board and was looking for suggestions on a good place to have a custom camshaft built. Im building a 434 with a little m block and dart pro1 230cc heads, pistons are je flattops, eagle 4" crank and eagle h beam rods. i filled out a camshaft innovations form but have not heard anything from them and its been about a month. So im now looking for suggestions on any other places you guys might have had a good experience with. Thanks for your response.

Awesome Engines, I have most on the shelf, they are our grinds we know work with common sense applied.

I usually tell guys, stick with a builder that has done what you want to do, and one you trust. Most cam companies won't net you anywhere near the power you want, and are very conservative. They also recommend different camshafts everytime you call... I design every camshaft for each application, unless I can use a shelfer. I choose each lobe and have Bullet grind it for me. If you need any help let me know. I have a profile that makes killer power with the 434/23* head for race gas and pump gas combinations. Pump fuel combinations in upwards of 1.7+ hp/ci and race fuel combos in upwards of 1.9hp/ci..with 23* stuff.. Let me know.

Well...if I have to use common sense to apply your cam grinds to my builds then I guess that leaves me out...lol  No common sense here at all.

Just for kicks here, lets see what he really will require and see if we can come up with a killer cam between the 3 of us.
Tell us just exactly you will be doing with this and if any power adders will be used. Hyd roller, hyd flat tappet or solid flat tappet, solid roller? We will need weight of car with your, gear, converter, tire size, 1/8 or ¼ mile, race or pro street, pump gas or race gas, header size, exhaust open or closed, any power brakes, p/s, alt, w/p etc, are you really going to run this on the street a lot.
1.7hp with pump gas is what we get with a all out race engine. Got some boost with that? Most our good 434 street engines are around 600-625hp with CNC ported heads. 740hp on pump gas is unheard of and I have never seen a real car back it up @ any track. Hell, I don't see to many full race engines back their dyno sheets up @ the race track. Needless to say, I may learn something hear.
Give us that information and we will see what Don, Kris and I can drum up.

ok guys il give you as much info as i can. the car is strictly for drag racing, no power adders, i would prefer a solid roller, car should weigh close to 3150 with me in it. it will have a 9' with 4.88s, a powerglide with brake and no converter yet, mainly 1/4 mile, no accessories, open exhaust, and i will get headers from accu fab and a carb from pro systems to best match the rest of the motor, the heads are 230 cc with 2.08 1.60 valves and 750" springs, i also have a weiand team g intake. its not gonna see the street much maybe drive it to the car show once a month less than 10 miles. if you need more info let me know and il see if i can dig it up

gasoline I would think
4150 top intake manifold and are you looking for a dominator so you would have to install an adapter
do you have a forward mounted hood scoop?
drum brakes in the back and front? please let me know
what type of rims, steel or aluminum? do you run tubes?
year make and model
shoot us over this information and I will get back to you.

the tire diameter is 29", i dont have headers yet i was going to get some made by accu fab im open to suggestions on size, and yes i do plan on running a dominator, it will be on race gas, 6" cowl not a forward mounted scoop, drum brakes in the back disc in the front, aluminum wheels with no tubes, its a 71 chevy nova, i would like to be around 9.90 but i would be happy with 10.0s. sorry for the lack of info i just still have a lot to do

276/278@ .050 Intake, 284/290@ .050 exhaust, depending on header, .440 lobe with a 1.6 rocker and put on a 112/114L/S. This camshaft works the best we have built for this exact application. The heavier the car the smaller side of the intake and exhaust we go. The duration on the exhaust will need to be picked up with the ability of the port to get the air out as well as the header size. Either cam anywhere in this range will be killer. We have a 3450lb real street Nova threw the pipes and everything hooked up that run 10.19@ 133mph and its a real street car that he footbrakes with a 1050 dominator TH350 w/8" converter and 4.10 gear. Loose a couple hundred lbs, use the tranz brake, open the exhaust up and he is good well into the 9.60 range. but a real street car is not a drag car wanna be street car. Anything over 3200lbs and street driven is where I drawl the line.
Next up and lets see how it turns out.

What comp will this be? From the looks of it it sounds like these heads are stock from Dart. Arround 300 cfm. A 434ci will want more csa then what comes stock with those heads. It will see sonic choke quicker when the ci goes up. ( peak rpm will go down ). Can you tell us how high you want to rev this engine or what rpm you want peak hp at. Those heads redone will pick up some 40+ cfm easy and will fix the to fast air speed problem you will have with that head and engine combo. Carb for me is on the small side and I like a different intake ported to the heads.
