What are the biggest heads for a 23* small block using standard lifter and rocker locations ?
(ie: no off-sets)

227's

230's

other ?

What do you mean by biggest? Are you talking about the "CC's" or MCSA, or what? This is all pretty fuzzy.

Big 23 degree... me like!

you know what he means... cc = fuzzy math!
We're talkin csa not cc... cc is just a byproduct of sca and dont mean much.
Chad Speiers has a RHS casting coming out thats around 2.75" sq. at the P-rod pinch using standard rockers... that would good for a big cube SB turning some rpm.

Holy crap Jebus.............2.750 sqare. Thats some pretty big coin with standard rockers. He was talking about heads that use conventional small block parts, but the fact of the matter is, to use a head like Rafel is talking about, you are going to have a camshaft that will require some better valvetrain parts. So will it still work with convention parts, or is it a recipe for disaster. I see, people putting cams in engines with +.700 lift, and then using conventional stud mounted stuff with 5/16 pushrods.

So this is why I say it is fuzzy. They make the offset shafts for a reason. Guys with heads capable of making power at or above 7500 should be running the parts that are needed to sustain that rpm. :)

No, the fuzzy math is definitely the cc ;)

I Have offset shafts on my wimpy heads, have under .700” lift girly roller and only make peak power at 6800… guess the shafts are over kill, but I just needed the .550” offset  for my small heads.

One thing about "big" 23° heads that are advertised to accept std valvetrain parts.............The geometry looks like crap. Get it mocked up then find you're not happy with rocker geometry and end up buying a shaft setup with proper offset to clean it up.

OH my Gosh John did you just SAY THAT OUT LOUD! and thats when you say why did I not just get those 18* heads

That is a loaded Q at best.:D

On my RHS (sorry Dart guys) 235's running a 3/8" push rod was giving witness marks with .150" off set SHAFT rockers that I was running. There is no way you could set them up with "0" offset and have any kind of even decent contact on the valve.

There is only so much material to go inside without having to move the push rod.
Just looking at different heads I would say with no offset you are in the 200 range on shelf heads.

There are alot of guys here that don't have Dart heads................I know who they are, and I am watching.........................................v ery closely. I am pretty sure I know of a couple sets of AFR's too...............

I only said that to poke a couple guys that know I am joking around with them. My 215's worked with 5/16 pushrods and stud mounted stuff.............had to make just a lil room though. :)

I am getting tired how his shyt is the best also. I will defend Joe Sherman but I wish he would use another head! (Dart) to compare.;)

RHS 220, Dart 215, and AFR 220 will all work with standard valve train parts.

people that know the basics about heads know theyre far from it!
if people would get off of flow #s they'd see that.

Hi Guys!!! :D

Yes, I have a cylinder head that has 2.72 in² at the pinch and uses standard rockers.

However, most "standard" shaft rockers have an .080 offset. This type rocker and a standard lifter will allow you to run a 3/8 pushrod. A stud rocker with "0" and you are limited to a 5/16. However, I'm thinking a .150 offset stud rocker and offset lifter might get you a 3/8. I need to mock this up to confirm.

Here is a picture of a .080 offset and a 3/8 in the 2.72 in² port.

no issues, no rubbing, until you hit 7500 RPM :) Dude, if it isn't rubbing, it's not a race engine!!!
