Hi, i have a 383 sbc with flat forged pistons over.030, solid f252 by crane cams with mechanical lifters, edelbrock victor jr and holley 4779 all new, with 64cc I can have around 9,7 to 1 and with 74cc 8,5 the engine the idea is for the street and track. and whichever horses I can have. Thanks

I would look at Dart 200cc Platinum heads, Years ago we had a customers engine with a set of hand ported {clean up port} Sportsman heads fully ported, Ran 11.20's, He bought a set of "The Best" "Highest flow" aluminum heads and it ran 11.60's, He asked me to help him re-tune it as suggested by the head company and we could only get a 11.40. Those heads came off and the hand ported sportsman heads went back on and 11.20's cam back, That engine would have been a solid 11.0-10.90 with Dart Iron eagle or Dart Iron Eagle Platinum

With your compression i would consider the 200cc heads, if you give us timing on your cam and all, you may be able to step up to 215's, whats your trans and rear gearing?

Yes...the cast iron heads will make more HP. Usually to get back what you have lost by the trade from cast to aluminum you have to bump the compression 1 or 2 points. With the aluminum heads you can usually get away with a lil more compression on pump gas. You'll be doing real good with the 200 cc runners. Some friends of mine here have been doing pretty good with the 215s. If you opt that route then I'm sure they will be more then happy to share their combinations. I'd be very happy to help also.

Thanks, Don

Well you have to run either pump gas or race gas. Being we go with pump gas, I would run the 200 cc units only because I am assuming this is car and under 3500 lbs and you are at least running a flat tappet solid camshaft.

You can turn this in the upper 6000 to 6500 rpm range with some confidence your making good power. I would keep the valve @ 2.02/1.60 and just clean the heads up well. The platinum heads do not need much. Do not make them any larger.

As far as aluminum verses steel, with pump gas like it is, don't try to squeeze it. Power is not made by compression. Power is made by having the right compression for the right fuel and then lighting it off at the perfect time to have the best bang for the buck with the most cylinder pressure the engine will stand with the fuel and proper timing used. Sure you can raise the compression to 11/1 with some engines. But, you will suffer tremendous losses with having to retard the timing to keep it from detonation or pre ignition.

Street cars run for long periods and don't have a chance to cool down like race cars. So if pump gas is your goal, run 10.5:1 compression at the most and have fun. Hot gas, I call it that, and you can add some NOS and really race fast for ½ the money and go twice as fast for the buck. Nitrous is the best bang for the buck out there no matter what anyone says. Even the blower guys are having trouble with those NOS guys.

Thanks for everything, i like to know whatever to me I can to hope in the track? knowing that I have malibu 79 with 4,10, slicks 28 10 r15, th350 stall 3500, DART iron 200, holley 4779, Victor jr single plane, and how many horses supposing that shot puts nitro to 150?

Even if your making 400 real hp, then add the 150 shot, you would on paper have 500-550hp. So with that being said and your car being able to handle it and it is @ 3500 lbs with all your stuff and all of that being able to work with this hp, your car would be 10.80's to 11.00's, around 122 mph and go threw under 7000 rpm. Off the juice, 11.50's would be a good guess. Go shoot her threw there and let us know. Good luck.

what you gain in rotational weight will be lost in the dumping of the clutch. With cars like yours and stock suspensions, they will both run about the same. Gas mileage will be another thing, should pick up at least 1-2 and forget the 4 speed, thats 1 to1, get a 5 of 6 speed and then you make some mileage up.
