Are these blocks cast at Dart Machinery and machined there as well, Are the Main lines honed and the lifter bores clearanced ETC.
The reason I ask is when I was at the PRI Show there was a block that was going to be on the market that was coming from China!!
Thanks Carl Hinkson

These are not China Blocks, and yes they are finished as what I am told.
I have seen those blocks and would have to be better than the 30-40 year old GM stuff we still have around and someone being smart engoug to put splayed caps on them could sell some.
But, I would not use one from China if I had to purchase it. If a customer brings me one, I will be more than glad to build it and dyno test it. I am done fixing poorly designed products from China and other places. It does cost less, but it always cost more to fix and then refix what you have to put up with. It seems everything from there could be good, but they just don't follow the same rules.

Thanks for the reply as I look foward to getting a few of them in the shop and probing them out in our CNC machine for deck heights, cylinder bore and lifter bore locations and cam tunnel placement.
I am sure they will be as good as all the other Dart blocks we have seen.
Again thanks for the reply Carl

Is there any one from Dart that can chime in with any info here????
Thanks Carl

Like all of our blocks, these are cast here in the USA.
They are honed and machined here at our shops.
We'll be releasing more info on these things pretty soon, I hope this helps with your questions for now!

Just wanted to know what the mainbolt size was and what kind on HP they are capable of handling.
This is in a limited iron head type class that is alky injected.

In the online info it says that the SHP block has splayed center caps with 7/16"inner and 3/8" outer bolts. My WD can not confirm this.:eek:
It also appears that there is no way to install deck plugs either from the online pic's.
Has the deck been streghtened that much the big triangular holes won't affect deck to head sealing and ridgidity??
Some insight as to the HP capabilitys would be great as well. Thanks

You are correct, 7/16 inner and 3/8 outer main bolts.
The block is plenty robust with the triangular deck holes.
The block is recommended for uses up to 800hp, a good high performance block that isn't meant for hard core racing.
Edit - To qualify this statement; We rate the SHP block at 600hp, 800hp is the maximum we recommend using it at.

I have used stock blocks with splayed main caps installed, filled and every deck hole plugged and redrilled and made 1000 hp with blowers. I have these blocks on the floor, and would not hesitate to run 1000 hp with these at any time. You will never move the deck surface with these and if you think you could, just oring and receiver groove the application and this adds 25% more strenght to the cylinder all around the water ports. These blocks are very well built and will most likely put a bullet in the head of the GM scrap yard block era! This is just another reason why DART is still out front with producing stull like this. NOW if we can get them to build a PONTIAC block like this, they would need to run 2 more shifts!

1000 horse on a stock block with splayed caps that seems like a lot as we CNC machined alot of stock blocks with billet caps that we sonic test for cylider wall thickness first and we only rate them at 600 horse max.
How dependable is a 1000 horse stock block??

very dependable if you machine it correctly, but you still have no gaurantee's even with a brand new block. I don't like putting $1500.00 worth of machine work and parts in a stock block, never did. But that was all we had in the late 80's and 90's. So we used what we got to work. A many of stock blocks made well over 1000 hp with no problems with splayed caps and filled blocks with the proper machine work. Very few we ever had problems with even with the 4" stroke stuff. We have way more failures with stock 2 and 4 bolt 400 blocks and a ton of .060 4" stuff splitting and cracking. So we just filled them and splayed capped them. That pretty much took care of it. Now we have the SHP block with splayed caps, reinforced cylinder walls and better material than GM ever produced. 1000 hp with the block will not be a problem @ all. Stock blocks with everything we could ever do to them cost the customer $1500. We can sell the Dart block for a little less fully race prepped and I rate this block under 1000 hp easily and he can have 1 in 1 day! With a good Callies or Lunati pro series crank and rods, 1000 hp will be no problem. I would not push it over that and really would not use it for anything over 800, but we all no NOS has no boundry's!

Is there a roller cam bearing available for the SHP block for a std./ diameter cam journal with out machine work??
Awesome Bill

Not that I am aware of, and it would not offer any more performance gains anyway. You cannot get anything slippery than riding on the good slick oils. Very Very Very little if any gain with roller bearings.

We blue print bore alot of cam tunnels to the BBC size in the Darts, Bowties and 010 blocks and use the Durabond GMP-1 cam bearings.
As far as roller cam bearings we have machined 2.250 cam tunnels for roller cam bearings on the 010 blocks, Most of the roller stuff we machine is for the 50MM roller which is a 2.283 cam tunnel and with the same housing bore you go to the GMP-55-T babbit bearings and use a 55MM cam coare.
And a 50MM cam journal is appox. .020 bigger over a BBC cam journal.

Can Anybody let me know if this block will clear a 3.750 stroke with h beam rods out of the box.
I am really considering buying one of these blocks just had a bad experience with a old gm block and this block really caught my eye thank's

we are already putting 4" stuff into this block with only minor rail trimming! The 3¾" crank and steel rods are not even close, they will work.
