I have a set of Pro 1 CNC 227 dart heads, 66cc. i have a .030 over chevy 400 block. i have a motown single plane intake, port matched to heads, and polished. i will be running about 10.5 to 1 comp., flat top forged pistons. 3.75 stroke, 5.7 rods. car weighs 3600 lbs. 3.73 gears. th350 trans. looking for a camshaft/converter combo that will get me low 7's eighth mile. this is a street car, 1977 Z28 camaro. would really like to stay with hydraulic roller. any suggestions???

and this just for all you motor heads to think about........my buddy has an 82 monte carlo, 406 aftermarket block, brodix heads, hydraulic roller, that has been 6.90's on street tires on motor....not street slicks, street tires.....been 6.60's bumping a 150 shot, on street tires...full body, full interior, 2 10" subs in the trunk, all original metal except hood....drives it on the interstate, through town, where ever......drove it 30 miles to the track, jacked it up, put on 28x10 slicks, drained fuel cell of 93, added 110....went 6.09 on 225 shot....i wish everyone could see this car in action....it is absolutely the fastest TRUE street car i have ever laid eyes on....and if anyone thinks im lyin about it, i will give you directions to our local track to witness for yourself....

Try cam motion thay have sold me some gret cams. And for combos look down further I ran true street with these heads on a 434ci NA pump gas my best pass has been 10.17 I just put an 8'' coverter in trying for 10.00s.

At your weight, 3600#, it is only going to make around 500-525hp @ best with real pump gas, not race gas. The camshaft we have used in this combination that always works very well is the 254/264@.050 and sometimes 110/112 lope sep with the lift being .630 on both sides.

If your goal is 7.0's, you should get in there with a good day and a good working car. Any tire spin or having to "drive your car", its going to be tuff. Any one can make this cam for you and I would have it put with a 7/4 swap to help with heat issues on the 1357 cylinders. Every bit helps.

a 10" converter with a mechanical diode would be my choice. This would give you the strength, and the lock up you would need. 3000-4000 stall at most and the upper would hurt you more in just driving around. You would need a very good cooler. 3000 - 3500 would be best for your application. If you have a trans break, you will see that many of these 10" street strip units are junk. They all give up to much slippage, so stay with a high end brand like ATI or TSI. Tell them what your doing and ask them if they will warranty it. This will separate the junk from the good ones right up front. hthelps.

There are going to be claims of these killer street cars that run 6.0's and they are for real, we run a real 69 Nova with a 421 inch motor of ours in test and tune the other night and with a 150 shot right off the line with REAL Street tires, the car went 9.89 @ 133 and it blew the tires off, had tire shake, and then the low pressure switch was cutting the nos off like it was breaking up and still laid down a 9.89. It would of been much faster, like 9.30's if Iwould of fixed the pressure switch but I got off the gas about the 1000 because I knew the car was going way to fast and had no certification.

When I run something at any track, they always bust my chops if I do something that is not within rules. Everyone else can run junk and they not say anything, but Awesome Engines just testing has to follow the rules. Rightly so because if I get hurt running something that fast and it not be NHRA legal, shame on me. Safety if always first. I told the customer to get his sutff certified and I would show him a 8.90 with that combination with no problems. So the 6.0's with a little juice is no big deal. The Nova tips in @ 3400# with me in it, 410 gear, 10" converter, 30" tall tire and went threw @ 6800 rpm. Even this converter is giving up to much.

thanks for the info, i will try to check out more of the combos. i really want to drive this car. a friend of mine had an S10 that went 7.0@97mph with a 406, but thats an S10....i got him by a pound or two...hundred if anyone else has any combos, let me know. im up for all opinions. anyone done any destroked 400's??

as for the nova awesome bill spoke about, thats haulin a$$ for a street car. im impressed. yall are doing it with a 3400 pound car with you in it though....the monte carlo weighs almost 3700 without driver...i wasnt kidding when i said full bodied, full interiored. headliner, door panels, carpet, radio, the spare tire is still in it, along with the jack and some tools, 8.5 GN rear, centerline wheels, no tubbing, etc. and you have to keep in mind too, we are just a few shadetree country boys, and doin it with only 406 cubic inches. im not arguing or anything like that, just food for thought....:D

im gonna try to post a pic of this car if i can......looks like a regular ol' monte carlo with a cowl hood and a set of wheels

Dosent matter if everything is in the car that came from GM or bare, when it goes across the scales, it weighs what it weighs. It is nice to see the factory origninal stuff getting it done though. My 68 Camaro runs 8.50's @ 160 @ 3300 lbs all the time with 1 small stage of NOS, 355 Pro 1 cnc heads and a real 12.5:1 540". Its a class @ Cecil County we run. I think the last race is listed on UTube somehwere, went red by .002 with a pro tree in 3rd round and no electronics. Talk about being in deep, never even knew I went red until I looked up @ ½ track and seen his light on.
