Hi guys, just wondering if i can get advice on the effect that different grade [viscosity]eg 15w/40 etc, oils have on the big end /mains clearance on an engine.
Like if you had an engine running say .001 to .002 thou on mains and .002 to .0025 on big ends,
[these are just example sizes]what oil would you use, would a thin oil like 10w/40 be better than a thicker oil.
Does the oil thickness have an effect on the engine at all and does it matter in the way its driven considering the clearances viscosity etc.
Also what friction would occur with say the above clearances and going from 10 or 15/40 to 20w/50 would there be any change at all?.
Any help will be most appreciated.

Just found this article, pretty good read and covers pretty much everything you asked. Its a little Clevite heavy for obvious reasons. The oil talk is on the second page.
