Well it's time I have to switch to 9" Ford, going to go with the floater route, just for ease of swapping gears, have a race set and a street set. Not sure if I should do a 28 or 31 spline,

The 31 spline is stronger correct?

Is there a certain axle a person need to find being its being used for a street/strip application?

Anything else I should look into doing with it

When you talk about 28 or 31 are you talking axles or pinion spline count. If its axles splines, go to a 35 spiline, you can still get a posi in 35 spline (i believe). Then you can swap back and forth between a spool and not. Get them gun drilled as well to cut down on weight. Plus I don't think you can get floater axles in less than 35 spline anyways.

I use Strange stuff and you can only get floater axles in Hytuff so it will work for the street as well.

Just make sure the person building the diff gets the floater spindle on there perfect, they have very little room for error. Semi floaters have a little more room.

X2 on the 35 spline axles. Don't know what kind of power your making but if your going to spend the money to building a 9 inch, It's not much more to go alittle over kill now incase you decide to make more power down the road. I just finished redoing the 9inch in my prostreet 1934 chevy, using moser 35 spline axles (gun drilled and star flanged) , wavetrac differential and a lightened ring gear. Old axles were stock 31 spline axles cut and resplined (31 lbs.), New axles (25 lbs.) Also went to aluminum center section and from drum to disc brakes. I ended up pulling 54 lbs. out of the car with 10lbs. of it being rotating weight. The guys at moser were good to deal with, I'd give them a call and see what they recomend for your set up.
