I'd like to build a 383 for my bracket car vega. The problem is I have to use a milodon #31070 engine swap pan, the pan on summit says 4 " stroke with oe rod. I dont want to go with motor plates or cut firewall. I called Milodon and asked them the longest stroke I could use and they told me a 383 was it. I was thinking the both little M blocks for this set up. Has anyone done this before? I'd like to get 650+hp from this motor with solid roller maybe super vic jr and Dart heads on race gas with no nos. what would I have to do to get that? I'd like to use my 1 3/4" Hooker super comp headers.

Are you wanting to go with the Aluminum heads or the Iron eagles? What is your budget on this built? If you're going to buy a dart block....why are you wanting to limit yourself to 383 inches? Go the 400 inches the 650 hp is less hp per inch which should be easier to hit your goals with. For the 23 deg stuff, I like the 400s better then the longer stroke stuff anyways. What fuel are you wanting to run? What compression are you wanting to run?

PM me if you have any questions you'd like to talk about.

I am confused. The pan is listed as accepting a 4" stroke, but you said that Milodon told you the longest stroke the pan would accept is a 3.750. If you need more cubes than 383, get a 4.125 bore Dart block.............

Use the 4.155 to 4.2" bore Little M with a 4" stroke 400 main crank with a 2" rod journal. This will make up to 447" engine and will clear everything nicely. Not cheap but will give you well over 700 hp and up to 787 with all the killer stuff and good heads intake and carb. It will easily fit with the 3¾ stroke with a 2.1 rod journal and the standard profiled h-beam stroker rods. No problems

Thanks for the input. I have a 355 now with this modified pan and its so shallow on the front that my rods are barely clearing it now with h beams. I'd go more than 383 like Bill said if everything clears. I'd use what ever compression and race gas for what ever it would take for my 700hp goal. I like dart pro 1 alum. heads, dont know what runner size or head prep it would need or even cam size or rod size and piston top. My buget is what ever my wife wont find out about, but I'll spend what ever it takes for the good stuff. I just dont want any problems like getting it together and finding out that holy crap bat man the pan is hitting. I'd really like to find a builder that might have done this or just have 1 build it for me.

I was thinking about this build with this shallow pan today, They say it hold 6 qts but it seems like it would put the crank in the oil. How much would it kill hp, foaming the oil too I guess. Anything else it would do?

So because your not going to run a mid plate your going to put all the load on the side of an engine block with 650 hp, chassis flex and stretch and what ever else goes on in a sardine can and expect the mains to stay in the block? Now that is crazy. Stock frame mounts even on a DART block were never meant to handle 500 hp plus with everything else played into the equasion. The strongest part of a block is the bulkhead on the bell housing. You can not hurt it. With side motor mounts at best are just for limiters. Now for street stuff you can use the stock mounts, but for 650+hp and a flexi flyer chassis like a vega, that is crazy. But if you want, Moroso makes a pan for it!
