(509) 400
scat 9000 3.75 crank
scat 5.7 ibeams with 7/16 bolts
SRP forged 9.8.1 compression -22cc (4.155)
the cam that i have picked out is the extreme energy 290 solid
adv dur I 290 E 298 dur @ .50 252 I 260 E Lift is 540 I and 558 on E with a lobe separation of 110...
vic jr intake
and demon 850
but heres where i run into my problem...im not sure what heads....
ive been lookin at afr....but the prices are too much for the budget so i was lookin at the iron platinum 215's.....do u think this combo would be good....it would be mainly raced but still drivin on the street....and all this would be going in a 1980 vette...weighs 3500 lbs with me in it....3500 stall and 4.11's.....and what kinda power can i expect from a combo like this....maybe 450....?..im not quite sure....and 1/4 times.....and last i have a super powershot ready to go on top still....im not sure to use the 100 hp or 150 hp jets..what kinda times could i get from addin the nitrous...and should i switch to a nitrous cam....(personally i dont think the shot is big enough for a NOS cam)....sorry for all the questions and combo post again....i didnt know newhere else to put it...plus buyin dart heads i thought it would be the best here....

What kind of rpm are you wanting to run? The Darts are a very good choice. You'll be happy with the 200s or the 215. Mostly depends on what rpm you're wanting to stick around.

Well...with the 400 inches 500hp is only 1.25 hp per inch. With the Dart 200s you ought to be able to hit that pretty easy imo. Don't worry about the 215s since your not wanting to twist this thing over 7000rpms.
Compression...,or lack of it in your case, might be your limiting factor in getting to the 500hp mark. If you're wanting to bump your compression up a bit use the 49cc chambers. You might have to get a better fuel though. I've used cams with specs around what you're running that have hit 550-575hp with around 13.5-1 compression with no tricks of the week. (pretty easy in other words) I wouldn't worry about using a nos cam when not going over the150 shot.
Hopefully your machine shop used a torque plate while honing your block. How much quench are you going to end up with?
With all this going to the ground through a Vettes rear suspension you may find some weak points. lol... Let us know how it works out for you. Feel free to pm me with any questions.

Power expectations are picked first then the engine made to that order. Wanting to have an e.t. that you want before you purchase your parts makes everything a ton easier. Kinda like building the house from the roof down? (1) how fast do you want to run (2) what mph, gear, tire size does it take to do that (3) With nos, that throws a big monkey in there and you almost need to converters, 2 sets of gears etc. If you make 400 hp and your car runs right threw there @ 11.50 @ 115 or 120mph, whatever it is and it crosses the finish line around 6500 rpm, which your engine will be dead in the water @ with this combination, your done. So you come along and put another 150hp on top of it and you get now a 550+ hp combination and you try to run it threw with the same gear and converter! Not how it is supposed to work. You will easily make 400 hp with this set up with the 215 heads. Being your gonna shoot it, so now get the gear and converter used to run the best for that hp. And when you use the NOS, you better have some good parts for the increased times as much as 1 full second.

well my power expectations are limited by pump gas....lower compression....and a street car...that why i was pickin all this....and just wondering what kind of times and hp i would make....and thats also why im gonna spray it a bit...its a street car i gotta make up for it somewhere...and i just have the system layin around..so what the heck....but yes everything is forged except the crank which is a 9000 unit from scat...and the rings are total seal gaped for moderate NOS.....and im not goin nething crazy.....i dont want two sets of gears....or converters....ill just buy one converter with anti ballon in it...for when i do spray it...and the gears will just be( i know its bad to say) but be like happy medium if there is such a thing....cuz im not goin for an all out race car....just a really fun quicker street car....so i dont think two converters or gears....would be right....its gonna be alot of trial and error on that part...so if with nitrous...it runs a bit high in rpm crossin the gates....i would change tire size...or other little things that could change rpm down the track with out nething drastic...(converter or gear)....becasue again nice street car it dont have to be perfect for track....running through the gates at my peak or (perfect) rpm....i can give or take some here and there....i dunno if it makes sence but thats the best way i could explain it....just a fun street car.....its not gonna be perfect for 1/4.....and i couldnt build to certain power or time....(pump gas compression...budget street car) i hope this all helps....and i do have a solid axle kit goin in this winter....the rear end already doesnt like me... :D so that will be switched to....but yea thanks for the help...and i hope this help describe what im goin after and how im lookin over my next build....and were u sayin with an honest 400 hp my car could turn 11.50s...if so were u talking crank or wheel hp with that...and also u mentioned the nitrous could take off up to a second...so ur sayin a 10.50....holy...wow thats fast....i would never expect somthing like that....
and 215 platinums here we go...
thanks again

i was also wondering about intakes....should i stick with the vic jr or go to a performer rpm dual plane.....one ive always liked was the weiland team g intake....im also confused about the used of nitrous with a dual plane...i thought u always wanted a single plane for better fuel disturbution and flow....thanks

Dart has a few nice intakes. I'd stay with the open plenum if it were my engine. If you can fit it under your hood I like the Holley Strip Dominator best. I prefer to weld in some runner extensions though.

How heavy is your car with the driver? To give you a perfect example i will list our 406 combo we run in our Camaro which is slap together JUNK
-400 bored with KB flat top hyper pistons cc'd at 11.5:1
-Stock GM 400 crank
-350cid 5.7" rods
-283 heads, bowl ported, 2.02/1.6 valves installed, no port or runner work
-Victor Jr.
-Barry Grant carburetor custom modified by us
-powerglide with transbrake and 4,500rpm stall
-32" rear tires with 4.88 gears
-Crane Solid flat tappet cam spec'd at 256/264 @.050 .545/.563 105° lobe seperation and i installed it at 102°
Thus far this combo has ran a best of 10.436 @127.4 but is usually 10.45-10.48 but still has the MPH - I feel if we had a tiny bit more converter we would be able to run low 10.40's to high 10.30's alot
Now imagine what this combo would do with a set of Dart Platinum 200cc heads and a solid roller cam :D
The cars weight is 2,780 pounds after a pass

the vette weights 3480 with me in and a half tank of gas....full weight still has a/c and ps everything....nothing takin out....before this 406 goes in....it will have some weight reduction but a 9 inch and 4 link out back....so with that im guessin pry still be 3500...with the new rear end setup.....
and damn good times.....u should just put the heads on those stock ones are really holdin u back...but that camaro still flies.....oh.....what u think a combo like mine would run....just a rough estimate...thanks...

Well now were getting somewhere. Your gonna run pump gas so your going to have to set this up to run decent on the spray. So your car with 550hp and 3500lbs, (150 powershot or something), easily gotten with your set up. So with that in mind, 10.50's @ 126-127 mph. So lets say you use a 30" tall tire and a 4.10 gear ratio. Your crossing rpm will be with one of our converters, (will only give up 5% of slippage), your crossing rpm will be around 6200. So there is your tune up with our converter. Get someone else's piece and you could get up to 20% slippage and think you got a deal.
We run a 355 small block with nothing but a 200 cc pro top line 50CC head with flat tops, small street roller, 4 bolt block, stock steel crank, manley I beam sportsman rod, one of our old stock car short blocks, with a Victor Jr, 750 4779-6, MSD dist lock out @ 30° with 107 vp race fuel, NOS Cheater with a 250 shot and run 9.55 @ 140mph all day every day. Truck with me in it weighed 3200 lbs. with 410 gear 30" tall tire, th350 our Nitrous converter. We used the NOS right off the line all the way threw. Very very fun ride. With that, we stayed under 6600 rpm and never hurt the engine is 2 years. Nice and easy. Off the spray, the truck had run 10.65. and it would not leave that well with the middle of the road conveter. Not enough to really hit the chassis hard enough. So with your cubic in and torque, 10.50's with pump gas and 150 hp nos, you better set your combination up now to run that and quit guessing or hoping or even worst yet, trail and error. Errors cost a ton. hthelps

ok so after a long time off and got money figured out....i got it...so the bottom end is still the same....9000 crank 7/16 i beams and 9:8:1 compression srps....now the top end is a the 210 afr eliminators...(beautiful btw).....lunati voodoo solid roller...60133 Lift: .585''/.600'' Adv. Duration: 278°/285° Duration @ .050'': 249°/255°
RPM Range: 2800-7200 on a 106 LSA.....a team g intake....and a chokeless holley 830 cfm.....with 1.6 on I and 1.5 on exhaust....all this still with the T350 and 3500 stall and 4:10 gears.....and all on 275/60/15 et streets....i hope this combo works well what do u guys think....oh btw i got the car down to 3180 with me in it and iron headed 355 and still having the A/C in the car and full interior....

Sounds good flynnd i am doing the same as you building a fun street car to play with.Going with the 355cid cause i already have a scat forged steel crank for this block and probe pop ups and 230 iron egele heads 72'cc combustion chambers port matched and tuch up runners, vick jr port matched to heads 100 shot, holly 780 street dominator carb, 3000 stall and 373:1 rear possie. My problem is i have already gone threw 2 solid lift cams 585 total valve lift and 304 duration and really turned it up past 8 serveral times but if you dont keep those solids adjusted all the time well i have wiped 2 lobes on 1 cam and 1 on the second one.So i am done with solids got a hydrolic cam, in.,.544/ex.,.567going in it now with a 400 turbo trans with break and manuelshift revirse valve body with serious modds for a drag car i got a good deal on it from Jeff dobins he is a local here and ownes a tranny shop.So cant waite to get my engine back together and check it out with the new tranny. The last time a ran it the front end came up body flexed and busted my bellhousing 3/4's the way around it was a 350 turbo.so i got latt. bars and body rail bars, i got to install also befor i street it again. But she sure is fun to play with enjoy bro,
