hello i'm the new guy,

i just bought a set of pro 1 plat. heads.. and had some tuning issues.. so i decided to look on the forums and figure it out...I started out by posting question and wandered why i was getting some veg ansewers from some people...i see now that alot of my questions can be answered threw just reading old threads.... thier have been some awswome advice given already and i'm finding out that some of the advice that i'm asking for has already been given in great detail in some of the older threads...thier are some knowledgeable people that have been doing this for a long time...on the subjet of which heads to buy...all of us have a horse power number we are shooting for and a lot of the old threads tell people how to put together the combos to achieve that goal...this has been more worth while for me to learn from the different combo's out thier then picking up all the car magazines that are in huge pilles in my house...doesn't matter if your a ford or chevy or dodge guy...if your reading this...we are all car guys at different levels and some people here have been kind enuff to take the time to listen to my problems and help me iron them out...i think that befor most buyers buy thier heads if they would read "ALL" the threads already written people might choose a differnet intake size or aluminum over iron and they may reconsider and my choose the right intake runner size and in the long run and be alot more satisfied with what they bought because it is the right part for the aplication and you don't have to try and cobel something together because you thought like i DID....mmm..."larger runner size must make more horse power"...it's not nesaserily so in all cases and in some cases can slow you down...i have had a great possitive expirience with the forum and only wish that i had read more befor i bought the heads...as someone has said many times "it's not the size of the boat but how it cutts through the water"

maybe int the future thier could be some way to look at all the treads on the specific runner sizes...the same way you can look at threads by specific people??

Anybody buying Dart heads should speak with a performance engine builder that uses Dart before they buy them, samething for Edelbrock, Brodix, AFR, GM ETC - Speak to an engine builder that builds engines using the brand heads your looking at

I have ran many 215 heads on 327's and 350's but they are high RPM. For the most part 180-200 runners are right for most 327-350 engines

Glad you found the boards here to be useful, too bad the info was a bit late for you.

I have actually created a section in the FAQ area of our website where David Vizard goes over some quick rules of thumb for choosing intake port size for your cylinder heads.
Within a day or two I will be adding a link to that FAQ page on the product pages for many of our cylinder heads in order to give people some good starting guidlelines for intake size selection.
The FAQ page is by no means a comprehensive guide, but it does offer some good basic advice, a more in depth study can be found by reading the entire article that I took the FAQ excerpt from here:
http://www.gofastnews.com/board/technical-articles/1130-porting-school-7-power-port-volumes.html

Thanks for mentioning the whole situation, though, we always like to have some feedback on what people find helpful and what we could do better!

hey don....
your one of a few guys that i'll admit to that i was wrong.... when i tried to adjust the lifters your way...it was ten times easyer and quicker and i haven't had to adjust a single lifter yet...i was amazed at how smooth it ran the first time i started it up...i'm a believer now....it quieted down the valve train and is running good now.... jake is helping me with putting a tune on the carb, my carb parts should be in today, so sometime this after noon i'll take it for a drive and see how it runs...when i was setting the lifters, i noticed where i was going wrong with the pushrod spin method and saw that when the lifters were set the old way you couldn't spin the push rod after you are done and this way you can still spin the push rod....;) i wish i had known you guys sooner...it's been great to get advice..hope to bench race with you guys soon

sorry...lil' late,LOL... anyway...i put on the new squirters and changed the spark pluggs tp the ar3935's...holy s#@*!!!!!!!!!!! it made a huge difference especialy when i moved the cam lobe back to the #1 possition....it's running good now...it's stange that when i kicked it down at 2,500 it started to pull hard but when it hit 3,500rpms the motor realy came alive all the sudden and kept pulling harder and harder the more rpms i gave it....the pluggs made a huge difference in it's all around performance especialy above 3,500 rpm's....in first gear and second gear wheni go to WOT it takes off but in 3rd or 4th it still bogs for a second then takes off like a bat out of hell....

thanks

thanks don and jake,
the car is realy starting to get lined out the more i drive it the better it runns , i expected the car to be lazy around or below 2,500 rpms with 215 intake runners but thats not the case. when i put the new squirters on it and jetted it back down it helped out alot... it's almost thier...it has a slight bog still in 4th gear befor it takes off hard and thier is no black smoke coming out from the pipes...should i try a 44 or a 46 squirter on the back?? i have 42's front and back now...also i'm running 10 psi of vac should i swap out the 6.5 power valve for a 5.5 power valve??

thanks for the help
