That is nonsense that has been talked about for years. Any oil suppliment with good heavy metals is always fine to run. Race engines now need race oils. ANYTHING with a API SI rating oils is not recommened for anything over stock engines. The newer L stuff is junk. OK for hyd roller low hp newer cars but garbage for race engines. VR1 is very good as is a ton of other oils. Rotella Disel oils are on the way down also. They are pulling the suppliments out of that also. For race engines use oils that are not API rated for street vehicles. Use any good racing oils and you should be fine. An Oil Sup is always good for what ever your engine is. It only hurts the cats that the big 3 now have to warranty for 10 years now. That is the whole deal.

thanks for the info bill, by the way what brand of oil are you runing in your engines both on the dyno to brake it in and on the track....i hear that royal purple has a new break in oil...have you heard anything about that??? i have broken in my SBC motors with 10W oil ran it for 25min to brake in the cam set the lifters on it and drove it on the street about 50 miles then brought it back and swapped oil out, my SBC has been running good for 12 years now and i haven't had any major problems, what does anyone think about the regular oil versus the synthetic stuff??? i know that the regular oils tend to clean the motor and act more like a detergent oil but i hear that the synthetic stuff is getting to be pretty good now at doing both...

thanks jeff

there is no difference but the base stock grades used in all oils. There is no such thing as syn oil but we won't go there. The DI package in all the oils is what is important. Break in oils have what I am getting from their tech, over 2000 ppm of zinc, sulfur, boron, some use moly, along with other things. The polymere that some syn use is garbage and will not let the rings seal in break in. Also, syn oils do not do very well with a lot of heat. It tends to break down the polymere that some use and that is bad. It plugs up everything because it becomes very tacky. The break in oils are very good from what I have used from LAE. That stuff is so slick you can not hold a snap on wrench in your hand with it on it. I always use a mixture I have come up with. VR!, Rotella, LAE break in (blue), OS supplement. I also use the VR1 oils in everything now with a good OSupplement after I am done with Dyno testing. Have had no problems.
