When we took a look at the 180cc heads during our redesign we found that they were already very well designed. The few changes we would have made would have been very costly for relatively small gain, so we elected not to change them for the time being.

If im correct, doesnt the Pro 1 180cc head have much higher flow than the Iron Eagle 180's ? Memory recalls yes they do, so thought id ask to clear that up

The Pro 1 180cc heads have been redesigned on the wetflow bench and, thus, are Platinum Series heads. The iron 180cc heads are not Platinum, so yes, the aluminum 180cc heads will wet-flow better and will make more power.
Sorry if my above explaination caused some confusion there! I assumed that he was asking only about the iron 180 heads.
The old-style 180CCs are good heads, but they definitely made gains with Platinum design.

I may be wrong BUT i think the re-designed 180cc Pro 1 aluminum head came out before the Platinum Iron Eagle's did

You are correct, although I was not aware of that myself!
I asked around to figure out this conundrum and this is what I discovered.
As I said before, the iron eagle 180cc heads had been created and tooled not all that long before the platinum upgrades were implimented, so they weren't quite as far behind as they otherwise would have been design-wise. The major factor, as it turns out, is one that I wasn't aware of previously.
Apparently, a whole slew of sanctioning bodies using the 180cc iron heads would require applications for re-sanctioning if we redesigned the heads and as a result we decided not to change them when we did the other iron heads, that way it wouldn't create a giant calamity with sanctioning issues and whatnot.
I'm glad you asked about this, it was interesting to find out how all of it went down.
Hope this helps to clear things up.

I remember when all this went down ! I was so confused on what heads i was ordering and the 300 some part numbers in the book
Then we were doing an aluminum headed engine and i said the 200's, but then i was given the flow numbers of the 180 Pro 1 and i was like
I got you a little mixed up there Dart Vader, You know what that means? I have been using this stuff way too long :D Time for me to write stories on Dart's history and what years the design changes took place, now if my brain will just work :D

Yeah, I haven't been around here at Dart too long. So when I discovered that the platinum 180cc heads were done before we started making the iron platinum heads I was pretty confused!
Thanks for bringing that up, if you hadn't I might still be in the dark about it!
