Ok. I'll be the first non Dart tech guy to reply.

Hi. My name is Dave.
I'm the boat guy. Bill Cannon told me about this sight. So, I figured I'd check it out.

Bill's shop has assembled my engine for me. As well as allowed me to use his shop and tools to finish assembly for dyno.

32' Sunsation Dominator
Single engine (normally comes with 2)
Dart Big M
Lunati rotating assemb. and cam
Comp valve train
Wiseco
Dart 355 CNC's with 2.3 Titanium and 1.88 exhaust
Dart Tunnel Ram
Custom Twin Carb enclosure around 2 totally worked 650's
Huge Pro Charger with intercooler

Made about 1400 hp on Bills dyno.:D

I've only had it to 5200 r's which translates to 93 mph GPS. Still have an easy 500 r's left. With that said, should be over 100 mph easily.

I know that 100 mph doesn't mean much to you car guys but to hit the tripp's on a 32' foot single engine boat. You're doin' somethin'!!!

Actually, Dave is one of the smarter guys I have let into our establishment to actually see all our machine shop capabilities. His combination of a 598 with 2 650 carbs and this killer induction system supprised me totally. I thought max power would be around 1200 @ the most. Well after 1400 +, it could of been more, we sheered the dyno key way and welded the hub to the main shaft.

Now I am not saying anything about our dyno being whimmpy, but at least I know that we had to upgrade our hub and key way to a better one and we now keep a check on the torque setting of the fastener.

The funny thing is that Dave said he did this to another mans stuff but only made 1000 hp. We knew we could easily do much better than that. Well after the assembly of his long block, Dave came down and assembled his invention and we had our dyno session of finding out his best loaded cruise rpm, torque curve.

He had all his information to make the boat a rocket. Like he said, the 100 mph mark is an easy task for him because he has the boost cut way back and he is using a pump gas mixture. If he uses C12 and moves the timing back up to where we had it, the 100 mph mark will just be a passing marker. Daves stuff was really impressive and was a nice changed to do.

I now have come up with a 632 with the same type of induction system with the Procharger or most likely turbo set up for 1800 hp with a pump gas set up with an inter cooler. The marine engine world will be screaming foul. This thing will run forever and be almost maintaince free. All killer Dart main frame with some killer internals like Dave's.

Thanks Bill. I didn't want to bragg. But it's true. I have blown the water out of more than one dyno.
The other registered 1145 hp. But I have since changed the jetting from that run, to the jetting that was in it on your dyno.
I was way, way too rich. Hence the re-ring job you did for me.
The twins were set up with 74 pri and 88 sec. With a quad window 4.5 PV on the pri's. Who make those quad window PV's anyway????
I changed to a 64 pri and a standard hi performance double window Holley 2.5 PV. I kept the 88's in the secondaries.

With the 1400 hp I'm looking at 107 - 110. With it backed down to around 1000 - 1100 hp I'm still at the 100 mph mark. We'll see next year. I expect you to come up for a ride.

So, you say you can make 1800 on pump gas huh? You better let me in on the details.
You wouldn't happen to have gotten the idea from my engine, would you????

DAVE

You know I did! I will be looking forward to the ride? I will have that to look forward to on a nice warm sunny day or evening. I will hold you to that one for sure.

Cool.
I guess from our last CO2 (dry ice) discussion is a part of that 1800 hp as well, huh?

If I can help you with the Pro Charger set up, let me know. You have my number.

It is a real freezer and will be used more for the drag race when you need to. But yes, It is with that. Killer idea by the way.

Hello! I'm back to talk more stuff! Lol. I actually thought I was gonna do a particular engine build for my project car soon but I have changed my mind a little. I think I am gonna concentrate on a slightly massaged Ford/MEL FE 410 Marauder as I have some parts in my uncle's garage leaning that way. I think I will keep the steel block and get aluminum heads and then a high-rise 4v intake (hole in the hood/scoop!)......we're gonna put it all into a '67 Cougar, I think. Just thought I'd let ya know. Thanks for having me in this forum. I really love sano muscle cars. I should have this puppy together within 5 years....knock-on-wood....lol!
Thanks,
~Chris~

Well , I dont know much of anything other than I do see DART taking a bunch of my money sooo....... :D

I do have lots of questions and will be doing lots of reading . The last site was a wealth of info and did post a few questions and all had great and informative replies . Like I said , I have lots of questions .

I'm new here to this board. A few short quick bits about me . .

I own and operate a specialty car shop in NH and as a hobby play with my Donzi power boat . . but no where near close to what Dave's 32' Sunsation is. We do both share the challenges of $$$ / mph . . and getting to big numbers on the water with a deep vee is exponential dollars :(

I found my way to the Dart site on a web search trying to solve a technical problem with my present engine configuration . . .

My Donzi is a 1969 Corsican, only 18' long, but a limited production design, only 56 boats ever built. It is the same hull as the Classic 18. Mine was originally a Holman Moody 302 with a Volvo drive. When these were worn out I replaced everything with a newer 302 and changed to Bravo drive. This engine in it's present configuration makes 345 HP and 333 ft lbs torque from 2500 rpm to 5800 rpm on 89 octane fuel. Note that a SBF was never used with a Bravo, and all this so I could retain a left hand rotation drive. LH Alpha's exist, but are hard to find and can't take alot of abuse caused by the boat exiting the water at speed! :)

My technical challenge . . . I am changing to aluminum heads . . . and presently only trailer the boat . . but will run it in salt water.

Now before I get everybody all PO'd at me my heads are AFR . . sorry . . the selection was done by my machine shop.

Right now I have fresh water cooling . .and have considered changing to closed loop cooling . . BUT this adds big weight in a small boat, and with the Bravo drive, a requirement for 2 water pumps . . . one to pump cooling water through the engine system and another to pump sea water through the heat exchangers . . which weigh a lot!! Read this as complex in a small engine compartent with small hatches . .

Ideally I'l like to avoid the closed loop cooling with antifreeze and corrosion protection, but run the engine and aluminum heads fresh water / sea water cooled.

Do the technical gurus of Dart Coatings have a solution to protect the water passages of my cylinderheads from corrosion while not effecting heat transfer ?
Right now the heads are un-used, only with the mods required by my use.

Looking forward to learning something!

Thank you,

Dart Vader

Hello Mario,
We'll forgive you for using non-Dart heads... this time!
In all seriousness, you will likely want to copy this post into a new thread in the engine questions area of the forum. Most of the people who answer questions on the board don't think to look in the intro section here.

Try a post in questions and you should get some answers that help.

Welcome to the forums!

Hi Guys,

I just noticed that DART changed their forums, so here I am. I hope to poke around in here and maybe learn something over the long cold Michigan winter!

I've owned my '85 Mustang for a little over 3 years, and I am on my 5th combo. Three of the combos have had DART heads (170 and 195), including the current 351 stroker combo. I was only able to run the car twice this year (+ some street miles), but I hope to get the car into the 11s next summer and maybe go a few rounds. Who knows, maybe I'll hook a hose to it and shoot for 10s?
