i've been having a problem of running hot...at first i thought that it was the radiator but i have an ss 396 radiator cooling my small block 350....i only run 37 degrees total advance and i can't understand why it likes to go to 210 or 220 degrees everytime i take it on the high way....or in other words when i take it above 3,000 it startes to get hot and will continue to get hot till i back down to below 3,000 rpms....the car did the same thing with my old cammel hump heads but not as bad....i'm thinking that i may be running a little lean....but the plugs show that i'm right on..700cfm holley 69/78....but i can't seam to get it to stay under 190 degrees...when i got to WOT for get it the temp gadge goes crazy....i checked my radiator fluid and the fluid never drops from where it should be..so i doen't think that the block has a crack in it...the oil is clean as well....i have a new vistion radiator w/31" core to drop in it but i want to realy fix the problem first and not just put a band-aid on it....i have a black widow electric fan pulling 3,000cfm on it now...
thanks for any advice

It has been my experience in the past that if your car stays around 185-190 driving around town, stop and go traffic, and only heats up when on the expressway or over a certain RPM the radiator is usually the problem. If you swap out the radiator and the problem goes away, then the new radiator fixed the problem, not just a band aid. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Possibly too big of crank pulley. Maybe you are overcirculating. Try a smaller crank pulley. I cruise with my engine above 4000 quite often with no heat issues. But Im in frigid lil Wisconsin.....Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i'm flaking paint off the radiator which tells me the radiator it's self is getting way to hot..:(:(:(..i think my pullys are ok i have deep groove under drive pullys but i shouldn't be getting that hot....if the radiator was made for a big block....i have a 160 degree thermostat in it now....it has been hot in North Carolina this year...
thanks for the advice

if your water velocity going through the radiator gets to low it wont cool either dont move the water around enough to get it to touch the surface of the core if that makes sense try a smaller radiator but with that theory it should start cooling down at higher rpm
