Here are two things i think Dart would dominate at. I bet 9 out of 10 engine builders would agree and it would make Dart more money and save many engine builders money

1) I think Dart should make a Super Stock legal head (i know the S/S head is legal but its not ready to race, but read on) that has OVAL intake ports. This design makes more power and the rules are 165cc, the corners of the runner are not used so OVAL ports work much better when there is a limit on runner cc's

If Dart supplied a Super Stock head that has the legal 1.94/1.5 valves .200"-.250" longer than stock with 1.630" spring pockets and offer them in 61.2cc chambers (it may be 62cc legal) and offer them in 57.5cc for the other applications where that chamber is legal

Have the exhaust ports raised and D-port but within the 65cc limit. Then add the Stahl adaptor plates on to increase the port size the legal way

Also make a Dart oval port Super Stock intake

Even if the castings were $2,000 it sure beats paying $5,000 to have the work done to the S/S heads or the GM heads and a class head will always sell because there is always a class racer where prices may get to the bracket racer

The SS heads would have to flow close to the numbers below
4.030" bore adaptor, 1.94/1.5 valves, no pipe on exhaust but with Stahl 1/2" adaptor plates, 165cc intake port with 65cc exhaust port, flowed @28"
.400" 225/167
.500" 244/185
.600" 249/194
.700" 253/198
.800" 256/200

2) I think Dart may also want to look into making some OVAL port small block heads such as 200cc and 215cc designs with OVAL port manifolds to match. They would be killer, afterall that is why the little chief uses oval ports :D

And with the economy the way it is, This 200cc and 215cc oval port heads would be something inbetween a Platinum/Pro 1 and a Race Series head

Look at any good head out there, They all are going to Oval style ports on small blocks. Proof? Look at the Dart "Little Chief"

Please vote, you like idea #1, you like idea #2 or do not like either idea. Please post also any thoughts, suggestions or feelings

Many engine builders spend $5,000 on porting (Epoxy and Welding) on Dart S/S or GM 461/291 heads to make them produce the HP and flow i listed. The Oval port SS head will make 580hp, it just works that well. If an engine builder could buy an as cast head for even $2,500 it would beat the price of $5,000 for porting. It would take some R&D from Masking but we all know he is about the sharpest tool in the shed.

As to #2, Oval port runners are the next big thing in small blocks, They just work, Period. I would bet 99 out of every 100 super stock cars are oval ports. Look at the Dart little chief :)

No problem ! I think they would dominate and be a great entry level race head and it looks as if others think the same thus far, They just wont tell you their thoughts :D If nobody gives your their thoughts technology will never move ahead and OVAL ports is where its at

Actually...I'd like to see a smaller runner volume in the lil' Chiefs. Would love to have some in the 215cc range so I could use them in the dirt.

Would like these heads you're talking about in a raised runner...

Butch

I totally agree with you on this one, i ve heard brodix have this on the cards.

I think there is heaps of life yet for the old 23deg SBC heads and an oval port 215cc head could just be the next break through for awesome out of the box performance

cheers

Pro-filer is coming out with a new sbc head and an intake to rival the Sniper BBC one. This will be most definetly a plus. It is due in March. All that sounds good but NHRA would not go for the Oval port head. Never produced them so that is out. Everyone one who has the heads they run now would cry foul! Nice idea but Brodix has them. They do not do any steel version though. I might try a set and see just how well they are.

Bill, I think NHRA would go for them

A 291 GM Super Stock head that will compete power wise in the class uses Oval runners in them, they used to epoxy them, not they are welding them.

So basically Dart would have a 165cc or less oval port small block head flowing 260ish @.700-.800 lift

As to oval port 200cc, 215cc and maybe 230cc. I would love that and for sure would use them

They might is like saying to all those guys who have done it with the 291 is a slap in the face. The Super Stock class is for stock production heads, block, crank, etc. Aftermarket parts won't go unless it really gets bad and no castings can be found. It is possible or maybe, but I would not get real happy. Others have tried!
