they use an overall scoring system. they take all the #'s and divide it into the top unit. Very nice way to win when your making tons of torque. HP here is not the # you go after. I have thought about doing a Pontiac here but when do I really get the time is what I have to work with. We now are adding a second 8.50 (ALL POWER) 496" 351 Dart Based SBF into the package to run 2 8.50 cars. My son has come home and enjoys the racing seen again and we have decided to make a stab at Etown this year also. 2 cars means nothing more if you can't hit the tree and run the #. We also have an Outlaw 10.5 car planned this year and that is a job in itself to be competitive. Anyway, about the Engine Masters, it is cool but very time consuming. We are doing an Engine now that might be able to compete. If your not going to win, why try.

Thats interesting.

Looking over what was entered in 2007

An under 500ci motor dynoed from 2500-6500 rpm, using stock dimension bores and strokes, readily available aftermarket parts, limited to flat tappet cams and 10.5:1 compression

Looking over the top couple, a 355 would need between 570-590hp at around 6500rpm

That is a really healthy 355.

I took the average of the finalists of the 2007 engine masters in the dyno mania article from popular hot rodding, and I averaged 4 factors the Max HP per CI, the Max Torque per CI, the Average torque per CI and the average HP per CI.

A 355 would require 578 Max HP at around 6500rpm, 509 ft lbs of torque at 4900 rpm, an average of 463 ft lbs of torque and 407hp.

To me it puts it all into perspective.

some times you do have to step back a bit and look at things from a different angle to reolize what is going on...i realy like the SBC but to look at the numbers and to see how much more power the big blocks are putting out makes me re think the SBC under my hood plan and start to dream of a snorting big block that makes the same numbers without breathing hard...
