View Full Version : CNC porting
How much does CNC porting add to a set of Pro1s if I wanted it done from the factory?
Thanks

Following up on the original post what gains can be expected from CNC'ing say a set of SBC Dart Pro One Platinum 200cc head ports? I did not know this option was available from Dart. Are not the combustion chambers already CNC'ed?

is that for a full CNC port?

Brodix claims 40 HP from their cast to their ported Track 1s. Tony Barker Racing claims 30 HP from as cast to ported IKs.
I haven't seen anything from Dart on the matter.

The larger the port volume the smaller the engine the less power you may make @ lower rpms. The larger the engine the larger the port always produces power. The up to 233cc runners now on 434 and 454 SBC make up to 50 more usable HP over stock as cast 200-235cc ports. Depends on where your starting, what engine and rpm you want to run. You can use as cast heads with the proper size engine and not see very much gain if you CNC ported them especially with the new Platinum series!
I was actually looking around the interweb the other day and the only 2 places that I saw CNC pro 1 dart heads was Rons porting service, and M2.
Both had 220+cc ports as the smallest availabe. Sooooo Given that starting point, it appears that one would want to start with 1 "size" smaller head and have it ported.
For instance it appears that everything adds 20cc so a set of 180cc would end up around 200cc after its been ported.

Any idea what they charge? Bet it is more expensive than having the factory do it. Somewhere on this board I saw it took about 2 hours of shop time in a CNC. So is it just 2 billable hours of time?

Not only does Ron have to bill for his time...he has to pay for the machines that does the work. Ron is pretty reasonable on his prices,...IMO. It's been a few years since I've been to his shop. But I've used him over the years and have never been dissatisfied. He also has a CNC program for the Dart Iron Eagle Heads.

No argument from me. People's time and machinery are worth a lot of money.
