has anybody seen any dyno tests on the new plat 180 heads? im looking at those or the 200's. the only thing I found was the old 180's on a 427, which doesnt help me much with a 350 or 383. car will be strip/street, no long trips. if anyone has any tests or heard any plz let me know. thanx

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the porting school article we linked to on the homepage a while back. David Vizard tests several intake sizes on Platinum heads.

What RPM are you going to turn? It you're staying under 5500 use the 180s, over 6000 use the 200s. I know thats a bit to general but it's close enough to get started.

What are your goals for the build? Go the 383 if you have the choice.

right now i have the 350, future plans for 383, but not yet. with my set up, cam is rated to 6200, 2400 stall, 4.11 rear gear in a 3250lb car. rpm air gap intake, 700 double pumper holley, looking at upgrading to 1.6 rockers as well.

forgot the goals, i want to run mid 12's with the 350(longshot but i wanna try). its a compititon thing with my buddies. I beat his buick 350 by one second, so now he put in a 455, he's running 12.60's. its not a stock 455 either, so i kinda want to come close to him. thanx

-A 355 small block
-Dart 200 platinums
-Light pistons, flat top, mill heads and deck to get compression at 10:1-10.5:1 or 11.5:1 if heads are aluminum (you will need it), get pistons that use .043" / .043" / 3mm rings, use 15 pound oil ring, napier second and chrome moly top ring (Total Seal) , Pistons will weigh about 330grams with excellent compression and flame front
-Use a street solid roller such as a Crane 244/252 @.050" .543"/.561" 106 degree lobe center installed @ 102
or
Crane solid flat tappet 244/252 @.050" .518"/.536" 106 degree lobe center installed @ 102
- use a GM steel crank which can be found at most machine shops, must be mag'd
- use a set of Scat, Eagle or Probe I-Beam light rods but buy them from an engine builder or machine shop ready to run, GM powdered metal rods would be an ok choice
- use a dual plane intake, RPM air gap or Dart

Now, dont forget about the car. What car? What trans? What rear gear?

Give me some details on the rest of the car. Seems to me you ought to be able to blow right through the 12s and be running 11s. But the rest of the car has to be there also. It's a package deal. Everything has to be working together. If you're needing help with that also I can get you where you're wanting to go.

the car is an 85 cutlass, 3250lbs, th350 trans with 2400 stall. no transbrake. 26x8.5 mickey thompson et drag, currently stock suspension, working on tweaking that, traction is an issue at the strip most of the time. i currently run 12.87. .040 over 350, 227/233 .489/.504 cam(hydraulic flat tappet) 1.5roller rockers, dart iron 200 heads, rpm air gap, 1.625" full lenght headers, 2.5" exhaust. prob close to 10.75:1 compression. race gas is not an issue, i rarely drive the car so I just use 112 and 94 mix. i need to check the fuel line size after reading a post on here earlier. any other info you need that i left out, let me know. thanx again

That car has the 4 bar rear suspension doesn't it? I have some pretty simple ideas you can do to get that to work better. Where are you from...Pm me if you'd rather not say here. If you're intrested in a good set up I'll send you some contact information.

according to dart, the new heads have better velocity, if so is it a big difference compared to the old version? i know thats a key area to look at in choosing a head. im running old iron 200s now, is the new plat 200 have much better velocity?

The newer heads are better...how much you'd have to ask someone that has compared them. Maybe PRO1 or Dart Vader can point you to some reading about it.

I thought the 180s did not get the platinum treatment? Could have sworn that was posted here once.

The combo i gave you would work great with a 3500 stall and 3.73-4.10 gears

Do you want to get nasty quick ? :D

TSI is a pretty good one from what I've been hearing. But I haven't ran one. Coan it the last converter I've ran a few years back.

ATI 8" treemaster

You can run a 4,000-4,500rpm+ stall on the street with an ATI Treemaster,, I use ATI

ATI has them on sale over the winter too,, Omly like $50 but better in your pocket, huh?
