Which dome piston works with the Dart Pro1 chamber shape? I have a set of the old school TRW pop ups (L2249 IIRC) but I'm thinking they don't look like they will clear how the chamber comes in between the valves.

mock it up and check first. No one can really say unless they have use that piston with that head.

Yeah I will was just curious if anyone all ready knew. How much clearance between the dome and the chamber should I be looking for? by the numbers I'll have about 0.038 quench so would that be enough or should I have more?

Thanks for all your the help.

What rods and crank are you running? Aluminum rods will need more quench. What RPM are you going to turn it up to?

Should be ok with around .060". What I like to do to make sure they all clear is put the heads on without the head gasket. Only use 2 head bolts on loosely so if they do hit it will mark but not damage. If they do hit and you can't see a mark, you can use blueing or a black marker to help locate where they hit. Sometimes it will only take a little off to clear. Once you install the head gasket you gain that much more clearance. Sometimes the pistong needs the machineing sometimes it's the head.

.038 is pretty tight, we have run them as close as .035 but the carbon get even hang on. Aluminum rods as Don has said will need a minumum of .050" Thats not a long rod and .060" is usual but we have run them tighter. But if you new at this, you have to check each dome to cylinder head with no gasket and see if it hits! If it don't you know the gasket should be at least .035 thick.

My plan was/is to start with spotting blue and no gasket so at least I'm heading down the right path.

As of now the combo is as follows

195cc Pro 1
B50 FMS Sportsman block
Anderson N-61 cam (228/236 .544/.568 110 LCA 0 Advance) 6200-6500 shift
Eagle SIR Rods 5.09
TRW L2249N Pistons (10.4 cc dome) calc out to 11.3:1 compression
Trick Flow R Series EFI intake 75mm throttle body
5 speed in a 3100 lb 1990 Mustang GT
4.10 gears currently but 4.30s have been recommended.

Same heads and cam ran 12.0s in a heavier 'vert with lowered suspension and 9:! compression. So I should be able to get where I want to go which is 11.80-11.50s

Just an FYI they did clear on the spoting blue test with no head gasket.
