Just got the new cam. Came from lunati with an Everwear gear pressed on and pinned. I asked the tech I usually work with if it really was ok to run an iron distributor gear with this gear. He said yes absolutely, without a doubt. Any real world experiances and first hand knowledge. Not opinions.
PS, Carl, My block goes to Keiths on Fri. Ill keep you posted.
Oh yeah.............its -2° here right now..............I wish winter would end :D

We have been using the Ever Wear Gear for 4 years now and you can not run a cast iron gear. Do it and you will pay.

Elaborate. Thanks for the answer, that is why Im asking. They tell me yes, absolutely, you say no. What will happen???? Other than wrecking the gear on the cam.

I use the Crane 8620 cores and they put an iron gear on it,,,
I cant speak about the Everwear gear
Im sure if Lunati says you can, you can. Call and talk to James or Steve
I have never had a problem from a bronze gear but the only bronze gear i know of that will hold up is CRANE or MSD, others i have tried are junk
Two things to help a bronze gear last
1) make darn sure your end play is correct with a roller cam
2) after your first few passes or dyno pulls getting the timing where it needs to be, put the engine on #1, mark the housing to the manifold, mark the rotor to the housing, on the front of the distributer at 6'o clock assuming the harmonic balancer is 6'o clock - mark the ditributer - file a groove here so it sprays pressureized oil on the gear at all times and this cool fresh oil will cool the gear and allow it to last
I have some bronze gears on the street that are 3-4 years old, no issues what so ever

All that metal will go right into your engine and mess it UP!
