I currently have a truck pulling truck. It a 383 w/ Dart Iron Eagle platinum 215 heads... 64cc., solid tappet cam, 1:6 roller rockers, dome pistons, all eagle forged crank and 5.7 rods. 13:1 compression. Victor Jr. Intake 750 proform carb. Heads are unported.. I am looking to get heads ported and maybe go to a roller cam. what kind of power could i make? I really do not want a cam that peaks over 72-7500.. who is good to port the heads? I am currently m.king about 530hp.

Ron's Porting has a cnc program for the Dart Iron heads. He does a very good job. Here is his web site.

Tell him Don from Wayne County sent you.

we will do the complete head porting and custom valve job for $1000.00. You will not make any power over 7000 rpm with a flat tappet camshaft with stainless steel valves. Put some titanium in and some killer lightweight parts and you will maybe see 40-60 hp more. If anyone says more, get a money back agreement if it don't!

I am def considering a roller over a flat tappett. I just do not wana have to keep the motor tured up way high to make power as its hard in truck pulling with gearing etc. and the weight of the sled. Is 600 hp un reasonable with ported heads intake and cam change out of my combo

Sounds pretty easy to achieve to me. Of course it will depend on the whole package.

The roller camshaft will make more torque and power than any flat tappet design could ever make. The proper camshaft either flat tappet or roller is the key. The only difference is with flat tappet, your power stops @ around 6500rpm even if that, and a roller will keep making power when properly designed with stainless steel valves and a heavier valve train as you have well above 7000rpm and will be much better in the middle of the run and the end without sacraficing any bottom end power. You do run a clutch?

then you should be fine with a roller and will be able to put the power and rpm to work. Right now, you are not making the power you think above 6500 even if that. Have fun, rollers do work well.
