Going to be starting a new project for my wifes Impala. It has a 383 in it now that will be sold to supply a top end for the 327 she already has. The goal here is to achieve a very tame idle, with lots of vacuum and get 25mpg. I have a 700r4 that we will be using. The engine will probably remain stock in regards to the crank, rods, and pistons. The rest is up for grabs. I was thinking a set of Dart aluminum heads. Definately a Hyd Roller, Roller rockers. I have a set of stainless Comps on 7/16 studs. Was also thinking of a TPI.
So Heads, cam, and FI setup are up for grabs. Lemme know what you think. Bill, lets see how good you are on emissions and economy........

I'm not real good with the hyd roller stuff. But,...if it were a flat tappet cam I would be looking at a cam with either 218in-224ex or 214in-218ex @ .050" lift with about .450 lift. on a 112-114 LSA.
Run the 180 heads...might go the smaller ones if you so desire,..but I wouldn't on my own.

I just asked the wife, what kind of heads he thought I should use..........I got that look, and she said I was an idiot.
I do definately want to do the hydraulic roller thing. I think that nothing but good could come of it. What are your thought on a TPI set up off say a vette or do you think I should just order an aftermarket manifold with a stand-alone. We used to get 18 with the first impala, and that had the original 275HP 327 and a TH-400.
I attached a pic for you to see what we are replacing. Really was a nice car. I still have it. I couldn't just let it go to the scrap yard. She drove that car almost everyday through college except when raining. Took it to her first day of work after college, I got it for her on her 21st bday. Anyway lemme know what you think.

I think the old TBI might get better MPG then the TPI. But I'm not use to tuning either EFI systems. I'm very familiar with the mechanical fuel injections and tuning them. But,...even then I wasn't tuning for mileage.
I already have those pictures on my PC as you sent them to me last summer. It's a shame to see a car that was in that kind of shape bashed like that.

that was a nice ride. it looks like the door jam is still in place so you can fix her back better. The 165 SR is a killer head for what your wanting to do. You do not even need 2.02/1.60 valves. So the 383 with TPI would be really nice and a lot of aftermarket stuff is available as well as scrap yards with complete wiring harness and ecms. It will still fly and most likely be easy low 13's with any type of 383

I was thinking more along the lines of the 327 from the smashed car. She wants aluminum cause she says "They are pretty". 180s are too big.....now what?????

LOL...thats what helps out my choice of parts....how pretty the are...lol For the 327...maybe the 180s might be pushing it a bit for your goals. BUt they are still what I would run on my personal stuff if trying to do that type build.

I would also run the 180's if that what she wants. Pro Comp has some very in expensive heads and if you take them in to any machine shop or do it your self if your able to, check them out. Patriot Heads are pretty good also. Same Chinese castings. They do work well in these applications where you don't want to spend the extra cash for a streeter.
