I don't do any racing myself, but from a spectator's point of view I have to say that I personally enjoy the 1/8 mile myself.
The margin for error is razor thin on the 1/8, cut too slow and it's all over.

I prefer 1/4 mile because that's what I started out with, but 1/8th mile is fun!! I agree, no time or room for error!!!

I enjoy 1/4 mile simply for the opportunity of the win on the big end. 1/4 mile offers more chances of things to go wrong/right and mistakes to be made/taken advantage of. I know some racers prefer the less wear and tear on their cars that the 1/8 mile offers.

They are the same in my opinion, if you run through at 8,000rpm in high gear 1/4 mile racing i feel you should do the same 1/8 mile racing

Thats why i hate when the big end gets bad at our track at they pull the bracket racing back to 1/8 mile, not 1/4 mile

Your good at your dial ins at when you test and tune for, not at the moment

They are not even close to being the same, for 1 thing, your twice as dangerous, getting out of control with big mph has killed more people than you think, 1/8 mile makes for a faster more continuos program, way less pain on the engine, drive line etc. Gear and converter can be stepped up to help the engines not have to make so much torque to move the car that first 60. I think door cars have more of an advantage because the dragsters can cut the air way better on the big end and wind has a ton of problems associated with consistency. Less mph, less resistance and better stability. Cost less to run 1/8 with fuel being so high, so all in all its a better deal. Still very exciting. I bet in 5 years all tracks will run 1/8 mile stuff!

1/4 mile is all we run out here (California) has always been that way. 1/8 mile just doesn't seem like drag racing to me. 1320 is the way to go. I agree with the speeds that technology has made possible 1/4 mile MPH is getting crazy, even more so with turbo cars.

My reason for liking the 1/4 mile better is you can drive a decent 1/4 mile car on the street 1/8 mile cars are geared way to steep for any real street driving. I am a street/strip kind of guy. If we ever convert to 1/8 mile I will probably not bother to go to the track anymore. seems like 1/8 mile stuff is more back east and down south.

To me 1/8 mile is just too short and I can't get used to it. I grew up with 1/4 mile and as stated earlier the chance for something going wrong adds that extra bit of excitement to it all. I tried 1/8 in my daily driver '06 GTO and it felt like entering a freeway via an on ramp where as a 1/4 mile at high 12's is a blast. I'm sure in a purpose built 1/8 mile race car would make things far more exciting.

Don't get me wrong, I want to ride the girl as long as I can stay on. But when you approach 200mph with street car mandated platforms, your going to get hurt. The 8.50 class that has come on strong is as fast as we need to go with a stock street car. 160mph plus is fast, enough and stupid is what stupid does. My car is 3300 lbs every pass, wreck that @ 160 and watch how long it takes to come to a stop. Now put 3200 lbs at passes over 200mph! More power, smaller tires, heavier cars, you better think twice about the ride. It is fun to see those ¼ mile passes, but the cost is not worth the price if something goes wrong! Bracket racing is cool for ¼ mile. Let someone you know get hurt or killed and you will see a different side.

I've gotta agree with Bill's last post on this one. While I'm a 1/4 mile guy myself, some of the classes that are coming together now are just asking for trouble. What is amazing isn't just the top speeds coming out of some of these cars now, but how fast they reach those speeds. There are "street legal" cars that are close to running now what top fuel cars ran not that long ago. Taking into consideration how far it takes to slow down a purpose built car at those speeds, you can just about imagine what it's taking to slow down the "street cars" at 200+ mph when they have a weight of 3200+ lbs. Now take one of those cars and put it out of control and you have a really bad situation. I've watched outlaw Pro-Mods run both 1/4 and 1/8 mile, and I have to admit, it's alot more of a show when they run 1/8th. And having friends that run in that class, they also tell me it's not nearly as hard on the cars or engines. Nice thing about it is, if they get out of shape, they back out, the race is over. I've seen too many times in 1/4 mile racing where they would get back into it to try and recover a win and end up in bad shape at the end of the track. While I'll always race 1/4 mile myself as long as the opportunity is there, the faster cars like outlaws I think are safer and put on a better show when they run the 1/8th. But that's only my opinion on the subject.

[QUOTE=rbrduck71;2855]10.5 outlaw, heads up just wish it was in CALIFORNIA, VERY TIRED OF THE GUY WITH THE MOST MONEY IN ELECTRONICS WINNING THE BRACKET RACE:cool:

Awesome Bill

Without the electronics, they would not even be in the chase. Traction control is needed to keep the cars right. But, most of the time, the big bucks win. What do you do? take the electronics out and you have wild cars that could get out of control. Put more rules or take them away and you have money wins. Put e.t. limits like we have in 8.50 classes and the race is less attractive. No doubt something has to change, but for now, it makes for some killer racing with Outlaw anything and people want to see it. It is by far way more exciting than ET bracket racing. Heads up racing is the only thing that will put fans in the seats while keeping the seats low priced so they can come. Shake Down @ E Town is the new race to be @ in the Fall and they should figure out how to make that an East Coast Series! 1/8 mile racing happens quick and is still very safe and gives all the racers and chance while running those turbo boyz.

How come you cant type in all caps???????

It serves no purpose other than to denote a "raised voice" tone, and many forum users consider it rude.

It tends to make a post stand out more than others around it, creating an un-neccessary emphasis that detracts from the appearance and readability of the forum.

I wasn't trying to be obnoxious and this isn't something that would cause you an inconvenience to change. Try not to be rude.

i get nailed because i respond to an old thread, time and date are on the thread, correct? so i would think a person would not get confused! im not yelling! well i was there, but im very fustrated, im a polite person who takes courtesy very seriously, nobody does nothing for me without hearing about my gratitude. INFLAMMATORY! i just dont get it. perhaps a page on rules that is very obvious and part of registration is in order, amazing! im a honest guy, forget the infraction if my behavior is too much for this website let me know and i wont come back! i encourage you to look at each one of my posts and responses and see if someone is having a bad day or if i deserve the infraction.

I asked you, politely, not to do something. It was not, in my opinion, something that was an inconvenient or unreasonable request.
I was not trying to be rude or obnoxious and it had nothing to do with any potential problems you were having with our stuff. We'd be happy to discuss that with you if you call, send an e-mail or post it in the right place.

You responded by promptly doing what I asked you not to do and telling me to use some common sense...
I guess I fail to see how you weren't being inflammatory there.

It isn't a big deal, unless you decide to make it one. Just don't type in all caps and keep posts organized and everything is cool.

Please try to stay calm... this is a forum for useful discussion and exchange of ideas, it's meant for everyone's enjoyment.

I prefer 1/4 mile vs 1/8 mile. I've done 1/8 mile I didn't like it. Of course now if it all I had to do then I would set the car up differently. Plus I like shifting. If I had my way I'd have a 5spd in my car. If I do 1/8 mile I'd put a glide in and run 5.38's

I done the same thing when I first started with post. It is considered "YELLING" in computer language! My son bust me on this all the TIME. Don't take is personally, rules are rules and if your playing in someone else's back yard, you have to play by the edicate rules. NO HARM DONE, no one is going to mark you a trouble maker!!!!! LOL. Your fine.

If we had to race 1/8, we would still do it and you know it. Ever ride a real bull? try it, its a blast I am told, that last longer than a 10 second pass and your only really on for 8 seconds.
