A couple of gentlemen by the names of George Poteet and Ron Main are planning something special for Speed Week at the Bonneville salt flats this year
They are planning to build a 5 liter (299 cu in) V8 that will become the fastest wheel-driven car on the planet. The Speed Demon.

To achieve this end, they have created a new engine program headed by Duttweiler Performance and Turbonetrics. This engine building team has the task of building a 5 liter V8 that will make over 2,200 HP and take the Speed Demon over 450 MPH.

Poteet and Main are no strangers to the salt flats. Just last year the Speed Demon hit over 390 Mph. Their team set 4 new FIA world records and also set the Bonneville national record. With a track record like that, their stupendous goals for the 2009 event don’t seem quite so outlandish.
Of course, the ridiculously powerful engine adds a lot of credibility to their claims also.

Hellfire Engine Specs:
Engine Builder - Kenny Duttweiler
5 liter, 299 cubic inch V-8
Projected 2,200+ HP - 10,000+ RPM
Dart Iron Eagle Block
Dart Little Chief Cylinder Heads
Turbonetics 115mm Billet Turbocharger
Jesel Valvetrain
Crower Crank & Rods

The Speed Demon will appear at Bonneville Speed Week, World Finals Bonneville, the private FIA Land Speed Shootout Meet, Bonneville Grand National Show, 2009 SEMA Show, the Detroit Autorama and more.
