Speed Demon Finale

Speed Demon Finale
There were 560 Entries: 381 cars and 179 bikes including 56 Class Changes for a total 504 vehicles. There were 3,108 timed runs over the 3 courses.

Chad Reynolds was at the 7 mile marker on Bonneville's famed speedway, when George Poteet took the Speed Demon D Fuel Streamliner through the 5 mile at an average of 394 miles per hour with an exit speed of 401 miles per hour.

This run was the culmination of a lot of hard work and planning. If you missed the previous article about Poteet and Main's Speed Demon, be sure to check it out here:

“When the car came to a stop to get all the info and reaction from George, as usual he was cool as a cucumber, and was ready to go faster.” This pass had the highest recorded speed of the SCTA's 2009 Speed Week, and was incredible to watch, said Chad Reynolds.

The HOT ROD Top Time trophy went to George Poteet and Ron Main’s Speed Demon streamliner. It has been awarded since the first Bonneville Nationals in '49—It was visualized by Wally Parks as the honor for the fastest one-way time at Speed Week. Winning this perennial bronze has remained the crowning achievement to land speeders at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

"Our crew and sponsors, what can we say… They were tireless, awesome, and more importantly, they are true friends. They did most of the work and we were proud and honored to be in their company. Also our gratitude to Vanessa Main, who kept us in the right rooms, made sure we were on schedule and gave her heart to the team."
