Cast Is Fast: NEW 2JZ Iron Eagle Block by Dart
Finishing first is the name of the game, and that pursuit happens both on the track and in the garage. Every racer is always trying to make more power and push their engine to the absolute max, putting a constant high-performance demand on their engine block. Factory OEM 2JZ blocks bring admittedly impressive strength, but have proven that they are prone to certain issues and failures when it comes to building a serious high-performance 2JZ engine. And finding a good OEM block is becoming more difficult, time consuming, and expensive in today’s market.
What about billet? Everyone associates the word billet with performance. And while creating a one-off custom block from a blank billet canvas offers many advantages, it comes with a significant price tag. For example, a billet 2JZ block from us here at Dart is going to be at least triple the cost of its Iron Eagle compatriot.
So, where does our 2JZ iron block fit in? The Dart 2JZ Iron Eagle block brings the only real affordable engine block option capable of making big power to the 2JZ market. We’ve earned our reputation in the performance aftermarket industry as offering some of – if not the best – off-the-shelf engine blocks on the market, which is why we designed our 2JZ block from a clean slate approach. Our block has addressed the shortcomings of the OEM block design, added many performance upgrades, and brings an engine block to the market that will be considered essential for any serious performance setup.
Dart 2JZ Iron Eagle Block Specs
Superior Materials For Superior Strength
The very foundation of the 2JZ Iron Eagle block begins with being cast using our premium 220 BHN iron material. This number relates to the Brinell hardness (BH) rating, with typical grey cast iron testing around 180 BHN. By using a superior grade material and working closely with our American foundries to ensure that the casting process has been perfected to an art, Dart is able to produce a truly special material combination to establish superior strength over the OEM cast blocks.
Revised Case Design, Built For Boost
To help prevent any issues under extreme, high-boost situations, the overall strength of the crankcase has been enhanced through increased thickness in the blocks deck, cylinder wall, and outer case wall areas. Additionally, while making case thickness revisions, we also revised oil passage locations for better flow and clearance with 94mm stroke applications, adding another additional upgrade in a critical area to ensure durability of the block in demanding conditions.
Additionally, our Iron Eagle 2JZ block can be clearanced to accept aluminum rods, making it the perfect choice for those running stroker combinations while retaining the ability to run your factory accessories when it comes to oil pumps, water pumps, etc.
Precision Machined In-house
Getting a perfect block requires the right tools for the job, so we employ an array of highly specialized machinery to optimize every process. Our wide array of CNC equipment allows us to manufacture components with the highest level of finish in the industry, ensuring a perfect cut on each 2JZ Iron Eagle block, while eliminating the need for expensive blueprinting processes.
Water Passages Redefined
Keeping your block cool is critical to your engine’s efficiency, performance and expected life span. Our 2JZ Iron Eagle block comes equipped with scalloped water jackets which help increase coolant flow around the cylinders for improved cooling. While redesigning the water passages, we also opted to equip the 2JZ Iron Eagle block with blind head bolt holes. The advantage to these is that there is no chance for corrosion in the head bolt threads and no opportunity for coolant to intrude into the engine.
Furthermore, we opted to equip our 2JZ Iron Eagle block with screw-in freeze plugs helping to prevent a blow out, a common issue with the OEM press-fit components would experience after a head lift.
Main Cap Upgrades
We made the decision to incorporate a 4-bolt main cap design on caps 1-6 as part of our range of high-performance strength enhancements. By widening the base of the main cap and adding two additional clamping points per cap, we have increased stability for the crankshaft and improved the overall rigidity between the block and the cap. These upgraded modifications ensure a stronger and more durable engine block.
Overall, the Dart 2JZ Iron Eagle block is positioned as a game-changing product in the 2JZ market. Offering significant power potential at an affordable price point, uses superior materials, a completely revised case design, and many performance upgrades, the Dart 2JZ Iron Eagle block is poised to be an essential component for serious 2JZ performance builds for many years to come.
